Norway’s Atle Lie McGrath saw his gold-medal hopes slip away in the Olympic slalom and decided to send his ski poles sailing along with them.
McGrath took part in both team events last Monday, where Norway finished 12th. He also competed in the giant slalom, where he finished fifth. The slalom has typically been his best event. McGrath took silver in the event at the 2025 World Championships, and seemed poised for a similarly strong finish in the slalom Monday. The gates had other plans.

TESERO, Italy — Johannes Klaebo led Norway to victory in the men’s 4x7.5km cross-country relay at the Winter Games on Sunday to win a record ninth career Olympic gold. The 29-year-old has won four gold medals at these Games and is widely expected to take another two in the men’s team sprint on Wednesday and 50km classic race on Saturday.
